GENERAL INFORMATION
(some points apply to when being run as a guest house)

 

The House

 

  • The house consists of 4 double bedrooms plus a bunk room, 4 bathrooms, 3 en suite and can accommodate a maximum of 8 adults and 4 children. All bedrooms have fans, aircon in main bedroom and bunk room.

  • Bed linen will be provided and this includes fitted sheets and duvets. Bath towels will be provided, please bring your own beach towels.

  • The air-conditioned kitchen is fully equipped with two large double door fridge/freezers, microwave, electric and gas hobs, eye level oven, dishwasher, crockery, cutlery and glassware. Separate laundry with washing machine and tumble dryer.

  • There is a large gas braai and a charcoal Weber braai. Please supply your own charcoal and braai aids.

  • TV and DSTV are included in the daily rate. There is excellent mobile phone reception. Please bring your own mobile router for wifi.

  • The house has a swimming pool and a pond which are not fenced. A railing can quickly be installed to close off the veranda from the pool area if required for families with small children.

  • There is a 5,000lr automatic back-up water tank in case of Ugu outage as well as a 5,000lr rainwater tank with outside shower. In case of long term power failure the house is wired ready to manually connect a generator.

 

 

 

Servicing

 

The house will be fully serviced Monday to Friday and on a Saturday in the morning by Virginia who will clean the house, wash dishes, make beds and do washing and ironing within reason. For large groups who need extra help, an additional maid can be arranged. The cost of additional maid is not included but the servicing of the house but Virginia is covered in the daily rate. Should you wish, you can leave a tip for Virginia at your discretion.

 

Richard works in the garden on Mondays and Fridays and will service the swimming pool. There is no charge for Richard but please pay him extra for jobs such as cleaning cars.

A compost bin is provided for your raw food waste. Please separate recycling into the clear bags provided. Refuse is collected early on Monday; the house staff will put the bags out for collection.

 

 

Beaches

The house is a 5 minute walk from a lovely quiet bay via the golf course, it is 1 km from Umkobi beach and 3km from the main Southbroom surfing beach and Grannys Pool.

Well behaved dogs are welcome at Ivanhoe. Dogs are however not permitted on the swimming beaches, i.e. main beach, Grannys beach and Umkobi. There is a long dog friendly stretch of beach south of grannies to just north of Umkobi. Please keep your animals under control at all times and collect a courtesy packet at the entrance to the beach to clean up after your furry friend.

 

Golf

Southbroom Golf Club is one of the finest and most picturesque courses in the country and attracts golfers from all over the word. Green fees are reasonable and the club restaurant is popular with locals and visitors for breakfast and lunches.

 

Wild Life

Southbroom is a managed conservation area with abundant wild life such as blue and grey duiker, bush buck, several species of mongoose and of course monkeys and dassies.  Southbroom is a bird watchers paradise with amazing birdlife. In particular the Umkobi Lagoon is especially popular with birders. Ivanhoe offers a lush birding garden, which is alive with the sound of birders in the early mornings.

 

Monkeys

Mainly due to habitat shrinkage Southbroom is now a haven for monkeys. They have learned that humans, especially holiday makers are an easy touch for a meal. PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE MONKEYS

Please do not leave any food out where they can see it, including sweets. Store all fruit and veg in the veggie racks or fridge and hide biscuits etc. in the pantry. A child’s water gun is useful to frighten them off, do not show aggression towards them if they get into the house, they will run off when they see an adult.

 

Shopping

There is a convenience store in the village as well as various other shops and restaurants. Ramsgate Spar is a 10km drive, Hibiscus Mall with a WW Food, Pick’n’Pay and Checkers is a few km further on in Margate. The main shopping is in Shelly Centre and South Coast Mall a 20km drive from the house.

 

 

Terms and Conditions

  1. Overcrowding will not be permitted. A maximum number of 12 people may stay on the property at one time.

  2. Ivanhoe is a non-smoking beach house.

  3. On arrival, an indemnity form with terms and conditions must be signed by any adults staying in the house for the duration of the stay. Parents must sign on behalf of their children.

  4. At the time of departure, the house should be left in the same condition as it was found on arrival. Occupants may be held responsible for any shortages due to misplacement, breakages or any damages to the premise. Failure to adhere to above could result in a delay of the repayment or a deduction from the deposit.

  5. Arrival & Departure Times: Check in from 14H00 to 18H00. Should you wish to request a late check in please contact the owner on 083 654 6922 to arrange key collection. Check out is strictly before 10am on the day of departure - no late departure. 

  6. Terms of payment and cancellation: Please refer to the booking form sent to you at the time of booking.

  7. The property has an alarm system with National/Chubb (0861 315 911). The alarm is activated and deactivated by the red button on the gate & garage remote control. Southbroom also has its own community policing with a station in the village next to the library. Please report any suspicious activity immediately to 039 316 8097.
